Book Fair:
The Spring Book Fair generated $630.00 for the Library. Thank you to everyone who helped out, whether by volunteering or making purchases.

Reading Olympics:
A team of 5th and 6th graders traveled with Mrs. Morris and Mrs. McKay to Downingtown on May 1 to participate in the Chester County Reading Olympics. The Upland Olympians had read a combined total of 45 books, and answered questions about them in three rounds of play. Everyone had a great time!

Faculty Appreciation Books:
A fun part of the annual Faculty Appreciation Breakfast (held on May 1st this year) is the unveiling of the Faculty Appreciation Books. The Upland Parents' Association provides funds to purchase books for the library in honor of each faculty member. That’s 48 new books that will be added to the collection!

9th Grade Honor Books:
Each year, money is donated to buy new books for the library in honor of the graduating class. Mrs. McKay led the May 12 Assembly at which she described each new book, and then revealed which student she had chosen the book for, and why. It's always fun to watch the students trying to guess the honoree during the preview of the book.

Circulation stats:
So far this year, 3,908 books have been checked out by faculty and students!

Information Literacy Lessons
Kindergarten and First grade continue to enjoy read aloud sessions in the library. The First grade helped Mrs. McKay by checking shelves, looking for improperly shelved books, and fixing them. They know that the spine should be facing out, and the call number should be at the bottom of the spine. The Second grade spent two weeks creating computer slide show presentations to share the information they learned about their states. They are planning to present their slide shows at an all-school assembly. Fifth grade will be working with the software program Inspiration to create idea webs for their next book report. In the Upper School, Sixth grade students are finishing their formal research papers on diseases.

"Now Playing" at the Library
For Grandparents' Day, the Second grade displayed hand-drawn portraits of their grandparents in the hallway near their classrooms. The Third grade has a number of exhibits up: They made timelines of the events in How to Eat Fried Worms, they have designed posters to "advertise" the books they read independently, and they have graphed the increasing weight of the orphaned kitten found on campus that several faculty members are taking turns bottle-feeding.

REQUEST for Bee Pictures
Keep them coming!!! If you have a pet (or baby) dress him or her up as a bee and take a picture! I love having members of the Upland family for the "Bee of the Day" poster I keep on my desk.
